In 2024, Youth4Climate Justice undertook a series of chapter strengthening meetings across three key regions Nalolo, Sesheke, and Solwezi with the aim of deepening local youth activists’ understanding of the Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) and feminist principles in the context of climate justice and social advocacy.
These sessions were designed to build the ideological and practical capacity of Y4CJ chapters, equipping them with foundational knowledge and critical thinking tools to integrate rights-based and feminist frameworks into their everyday advocacy and community engagement work.
The Human Rights-Based Approach emphasizes the importance of embedding human dignity, participation, accountability, and non-discrimination in all aspects of development and policy work. Meanwhile, feminist principles call for the disruption of structural inequalities, promotion of gender justice, and the inclusion of diverse voices especially those of women, girls, and marginalized groups within decision-making spaces.
Participants explored how these two approaches intersect with climate action, natural resource governance, and community resilience. The sessions also involved dialogue on power dynamics, intersectionality, and how to amplify community voices that are often excluded from dominant narratives. By anchoring their work in HRBA and feminist values, the chapters in Nalolo, Sesheke, and Solwezi are now better positioned to champion inclusive, people-centred solutions that address not just the environmental dimensions of the climate crisis, but also its social and gendered impacts.
These strengthening meetings also provided an opportunity for chapters to reflect, connect, and strategize collectively fostering a more unified and values-driven movement across regions.Youth4Climate Justice remains committed to empowering its regional chapters with the knowledge and tools needed to lead boldly and justly in their communities, ensuring that climate action is grounded in equity, justice, and human rights.
